What Are Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy?
Laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are minimally invasive procedures used to examine different areas of the female reproductive system and surrounding structures.
What Is Laparoscopy?
Laparoscopic surgery requires placing a tiny camera in the abdomen via one or more small incisions for examining the abdominal and pelvic organs. According to the examination results and treatment plan, certain conditions can be treated simultaneously.
What Is Hysteroscopy?
Hysteroscopy uses a thin camera passed through the vagina and cervix to examine the inside of the uterus. It does not require an abdominal incision. A biopsy or treatment of a specific uterine-cavity abnormality may also be performed when indicated.
Laparoscopy is an inspection of the abdomen and pelvis via small cuts or incisions, whereas hysteroscopy is an internal inspection of the uterus via the cervix.
